Washington Interscholastic Basketball Coaches Asso.
Dear WIBCA Members:
In response to the recent decision made by the WIAA Executive Board
changing the format of all state tournaments for boy's and girl's
basketball teams in the state of Washington, the Washington
Interscholastic Basketball Coaches Association has developed a Regionals
and State Championship Format Proposal For 2010-12 with several options
that we would like for you to vote on so we can present one to the WIAA
in the hopes they will strongly consider implementing our eventual
proposed option for either "Regionals" or "Super Regionals" and Final 8
seedling or draw for the six state tournaments in the upcoming years.
We have spent many hours preparing this proposal and have conducted
membership obrainstorming and idea sharing, reviews, as well as a
state-wide meeting for members to review this proposal before we sent
out for members to vote on. While by no means are very many of us happy
with how this decision was made, communicated or handed down to us, we
are moving forth and trying to be proactive and be the ones who are
doing what is best for players, families, schools, fans, communities and
coaches. Attached you will find:
1. Power Point document that will explain the proposals 2. A detailed
version of the proposed "Options" to choose from 3. The "Regionals and
State Championship Format Proposal For 2010-12" with the following
"Options".
-Option 1 - (32 Team Super Regional Single Elimination)
-Option 2 - (32 Team Super Regional Single to Modified Double Elimination)
-Option 3 - (16 Team Regional Single Elimination)
-Option 4 - (16 Team Regional Modified Double Elimination)
What we need you to do is to email Nalin Sood, WIBCA President back with
your option by Thursday, May 20th for your vote to count. If you would
like to make a short comment that is fine but keep in mind he will be
receiving "hopefully" hundreds of votes and will be trying to collate
that information in a short amount of time. Please email by either
"replying" or sending it to -soodn@edmonds.wednet.edu
What we have done or are doing, as determined at our recent WIBCA
Special Session Meeting in Chelan on May 16th is the following:
1. We have sent out our "Regionals and State Championship Format
Proposal For 2010-12" to many media sources so they know that WIBCA is
taking this matter very seriously and is doing our part to come up with
an option we "hope" the WIAA will consider.
2. We have sent out this email to all members of WIBCA via email and
Eblast (Please forward to any coaches you know who may not have received
this).
3. We will tally the votes
4. We will send out results to WIBCA members.
5. Several WIBCA coaches will share our proposed option to all nine district reps/secretaries to
let them know this is how our membership body voted and hope they will
support us.
6. The WIBCA Executive board will select several coaches representing
all classifications to meet with the WIAA prior to June 1 to rationalize
our proposed option. We will have our voting completed by the end of this week.
Thanks,
WIBCA
