Liberty Lancers name new boys basketball coach

Liberty Community, Staff, Parents, Students, and Student-Athletes,

It is my pleasure as your acting Liberty Athletic Director to announce that Mr. Mike Thacker has accepted the position of Liberty Boys Head Basketball Coach. Mike has almost 30 years of basketball coaching experience with most as a head coach. His past experience has included Tonasket High School, Moses Lake High School, Freeman High School and Lake City High School. Not only does Mike have an extreme passion for building success at the high school level, but also is very committed to building a solid basketball program by establishing a basketball foundation in the earlier grades. Mike will be very active in the K-6 and junior high basketball programs in the Liberty School district. Not only is Mike an excellent basketball coach, but an outstanding high school teacher in the fields of History and Math in the Freeman School District. Please join me in welcoming Mike to the Liberty family.

Good news...congrats to a great B-ball coach.

In 25 years of coaching, Mike Thacker's boys basketball teams have compiled a very impressive 384-240 record. That is an average of 15.4 wins a season.

A former Freeman administrator once said "Mike Thacker will never coach in the state of Washington again."

The Liberty Lancers have gone out and hired one of the very best coaches around. It will not be long before they start to see the results they are looking for.

Congratulations Mike Thacker! It will be very good to see you back in the game.

So, when's the Liberty/Freeman game??? Sure, it'll have to be non-league...but so what??

Great to see Mike Thacker back on the sideline of the hardwood where he belongs. 3 years had to almost kill him. He got a raw deal at Freeman and with the exception of a couple of touchy feely parents, had the support of the vast majority of the players and parents. Too bad Freeman did not come to their senses and get him back before he had to go away. Bill Bland has done a respectable job at Freeman and is a good coach, but would have liked Mike to have continued there.
